One of the most used surface finishes today is ENIG (Electroless Nickel, Immersion Gold) where a substantial layer of Nickel (typically 3-6 micron) is plated on to exposed copper followed by an extremely thin gold layer (usually 0.05 – 0.125 micron) to protect from corrosion. It is a relatively cost effective solution but has the downside that nickel is magnetic which can be undesirable in certain applications (test and measurement, medical industry, research,… ). Also, ENEPIG and Hard Gold finishes contain the same metal.
DK Ceramic Circuits, therefore, offers a solution using a palladium- gold surface finish, typically 0.15 microns each. It offers all the benefits of ENIG but without nickel and is not magnetic. It has excellent solderability and thanks to the presence of palladium, it also allows for gold wire bonding.
We are capable of applying this finish to most of our circuits boards and can offer ceramic PCB, metal core PCB/IMS and rigid FR4/CEM3 PCB with gold surface finishes without Nickel.
